Since its first televised satellite broadcast in 1987 - Goldener Saal Wiener Musikvereins -The Vienna New Year's Concert - the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has made an iconic impression on Chinese audiences. The VPO has also become one of the best exponents of classical music performance in the world.

In 2017, this world renowned music festival will have been enthralling Chinese audiences for 30 years. To coincide with this momentous anniversary, we are honored to announce that Wu Promotion will be the exclusive tour agent for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2017 tour of China. In the autumn we will bring the unmistakable sound of the VPO to China, under the baton of Maestro Andris Nelsons. As the orchestra’s legendary fame in China continues, Wu Promotion will take the opportunity to raise the popularization of classical music in China to an even higher level.

In 2017, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will visit China at the invitation of Wu Promotion. This will be the first in a five year tour and concert series by the VPO. In 2018 the orchestra will visit China with one of the world’s finest conductors - Franz Welser-Möst – presenting a feast of classical music for audiences across the country.

There is perhaps no other musical ensemble more consistently and closely associated with the history and tradition of European classical music than the Vienna Philharmonic.

In accordance with Philharmonic statutes, only a member of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra can become a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. Before joining the Philharmonic, therefore, one must first successfully audition for a position with the State Opera Orchestra and prove oneself capable over a period of three years before becoming eligible to submit an application for membership in the association of the Vienna Philharmonic.

Since its inception by Otto Nicolai in 1842, the fascination that the orchestra has held for prominent composers and conductors, as well as for audiences all over the world, is based not only on a homogenous musical style carefully bequeathed from one generation to the next, but also on its unique history and structure. The foremost ruling body of the organization is the orchestra itself.

In 2014, the VPO received the coveted Birgit Nilsson Prize for outstanding achievements and major contributions to the field of opera/concert. Since 2008, Rolex is the Exclusive Sponsor of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Vienna Philharmonic performs approximately 110 concerts every season, presents Vienna Philharmonic Weeks in New York and Japan, and has participated in the Salzburg Festival since 1922. The orchestra makes guest appearances in leading concert halls and festivals around the world and presents the New Year's Concert, which is broadcast internationally in over 90 countries, and the Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn, which is attended annually by up to 100,000 people.

The musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic endeavor to implement the motto with which Ludwig van Beethoven, whose symphonic works served as a catalyst for the creation of the orchestra, prefaced his Missa solemnis: “From the heart, to the heart.”

Conductor: Andris Nelsons

Andris Nelsons is the newly appointed Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, start-ing in the 2014/2015 season. Andris Nelsons made his Boston Symphony Orchestra debut in March 2011, leading Mahler’s Symphony no. 9 at Carnegie Hall. In summer 2012, Nelsons made his debut at Tanglewood, and in January 2013, he made his Symphony Hall debut. This appointment cements Andris Nelsons as one of the most renowned conductors on the interna-tional scene today, a distinguished name both on the opera and concert podiums.

Nelsons has been Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra since 2008 and remains at the helm of orchestra until Summer 2015, enjoying critically acclaimed seasons and an outstanding tenure. With the CBSO, he undertakes major tours worldwide, including regular appearances at such summer festivals as Lucerne Festival, BBC Proms and Berliner Festspiele. Together they have toured the major European concert halls, including the Musik-verein, Vienna, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Paris, Gasteig, Munich and the Auditorio Nacion-al de Música, Madrid. Nelsons made his debut in Japan, on tour with Wiener Philharmoniker, and returned to tour Japan and the Far East with the CBSO in November 2013.

Over the next few seasons he will continue collaborations with Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Philharmoniker, Het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Sympho-nieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and Philharmonia Orchestra.

Andris Nelsons is a regular guest at Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Wiener Staatsoper and the Metropolitan Opera New York. In summer 2014 he returned to Bayreuther Festspiele as Musical Director for Lohengrin, in a production directed by Hans Neuenfels, which Nelsons premiered in Bayreuth in 2010.

With the CBSO, Nelsons has an exciting recording collaboration with Orfeo International: they are working towards releasing all orchestral works by Tchaikovsky and a majority of works by R. Strauss, their first Strauss release together was praised by The Times: “one of the most sump-tuous and refined accounts of ‘Ein Heldenleben’ ever put on to disc”. The majority of Nelsons’ recordings are recognised with a Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik and, in October 2011, Andris Nelsons received the prestigious ECHO Klassik of the German Phono Academy in the category "Conductor of the Year" for his recording with CBSO of Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird’ and ‘Symphony of Psalms’. For audiovisual recordings, he has an exclusive agreement with Unitel GmbH, the most recent release is a disc including Dvorak, entitled From The New World with Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, released on DVD and Blu-ray in June 2013.

Born in Riga in 1978 into a family of musicians, Andris Nelsons began his career as a trumpeter in the Latvian National Opera Orchestra before studying conducting. He was Principal Conduc-tor of Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie in Herford, Germany 2006-2009 and Music Director of Latvian National Opera 2003-2007.
