Founded in 1979, the Shanghai Ballet was formerly known as The White-haired Girl performing team and it is one of the world’s predominant ballet companies, bringing the unique glamour of Chinese dance to the international stage.
During its 40-year history, Shanghai Ballet has created and staged many new ballet productions, including the classic version of Swan Lake, directed by choreographer and former Artistic Director of the English National Ballet Derek Deane, creating an unprecedented lake of swans in the Chinese ballet world, and the large-scale original ballet Bright Red Star which tells the story of China's patriotic story through ballet language.
