The volume and power of 7 pianos together IS NOT seven times the power of one. This is explained by physical acoustic phenomenon of the sound.”
- François Lindemann, (The founder of Piano Seven)

The New Creation
Reviews
China Tour 2010

Despite several successful piano quartets in the past, the combination of 7 pianos is definitely unique and a creative achievement in music history. Similar to every large orchestra, symphony or chamber ensemble; the music is not only a product of all seven pianos, but also sometimes a soloist show accompanied by 2 or 3 pianos. Piano Seven comprehensively and deeply presents the beautiful sound of piano through various aspects.

Originally, the unique septet was conceived by pianists François Lindemann and Sebastian Santa-Maria as a one-off experiment for seven pianists playing together. Each of the pianists has taken part in creating songs played by the group. The band has enjoyed tremendously successful concerts. The concerts were fully packed and there were still hundreds of people who could not enter the concert hall.

In 1986, the artists named their band as Piano Seven. In the past 24 years, Piano Seven has been rich in experience and full of emotion: seven creations, with more than 150 concerts in Asia, Brazil, Lebanon, Egypt, France and Switzerland; with several CD recordings, a video and a DVD.

Latin Style Fused with Jazz and Blue
As the founder, François Lindemann said, “the volume and power of 7 pianos together IS NOT seven times the power of one. This is also explained by physical acoustic phenomenon of the sound. seven trumpets together don’t sound 7 X 1.”

Piano Seven presents all original music created by the pianists themselves. It features Latin style fused with jazz and blues. During live concerts, they also allow space for passionate improvising by one or two soloists, accompanied by others.

The New Creation

The new show includes the seven current pianists of Piano Seven: François Lindemann, Michel Bastet, Olivier Rogg, Pierre-Luc Vallet, Valentin Peiry, Marc Perrenoud and Fabrizio Chiovetta. It includes also two video artists (Daniel Wyss and Bastien Genoux); and two guest musicians: Levon, a young percussionist who studied at the New School University in New York and at the Conservatory of Geneva, and violinist Stéphanie Décaillet, educated in Sion at Tibor Varga, and also the Conservatory of Geneva, she is currently also a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne OCL.

The subject of this new show is musically passionate whilst presenting live video images, and collecting elements from previous international tours.

Like the previous creations of Piano Seven, the show is rich in musical and scenic emotions, and the video will certainly bring an additional artistic touch.

“The tales of this world have already been written ... and have to be written over and over again. Not because we need new tales. They have to be written so that the tradition of telling tales, of writing tales does not die out."

- Peter Bichsel (Swiss writer)

“Imagine the romantic virtuosity of the Russian masters from Rachmaninov to Shostakovitch; the exotic harmonies and quaint Orientalism of French Impressionists like Debussy and Saint-Saëns; and modern works for jazz ensemble, with infectious syncopation and jazz chords. Now take all of these together, and add in the element of exuberant fun and free improvisation, and you will realise just how much enjoyment exudes from the stage once the performers start playing.”
