2017 Mariinsky Theatre Festival in China finalizes successfully

Under the invitation of Shanghai Grand Theatre, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and Ballet offered extraordinary performances as the closing of ‘2017 Mariinsky Theatre Festival in China’ from 26 to 28 November. On 26 and 27 November, Shanghai audience enjoyed a modern version of ‘Cinderella’, choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky; on 28 November, under the baton of Maestro Valery Gergiev, the orchestra and pianist Denis Matsuev presented a Stravinsky night in remembrance of the 135th anniversary of famous composer Stravinsky.

This year's "Mariinsky Theatre Festival in China" had its grand opening in August 2018. On 7 August, Maestro Valery Gergiev held his iconic ‘toothpick’ onstage to lead the Mariinsky Orchestra presenting Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1 in G Major and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5 in E Minor to the Chinese audience. On 9 and 10 August, The ballet company of Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre performed the classic ballet opera Le Corsaire. As this festival is also an important part of the second "Harbin Sino-Russian Cultural and Art Exchange Week", Mr. Xibin Song, Deputy Secretary of Harbin Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Harbin, Ms. Lina Zhang, Director of Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Culture, Kanguo Li, Director of Harbin Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Television, Press and Publication all attended to the performances.
