Just like in the Netherlands, The Legend of the White Snake and the Peking Opera gala also left a great impression on the audience in Austria and Italy. Rongrong Wang, one of the prestigious actresses from the Zhang School, performed Suzhen Bai in The Legend of the White Snake which she hadn’t acted for 23 years. One member of the audience said: “as this is my first time to see Peking Opera, I searched the plot from the internet to get a general understanding. The Legend of the White Snake is similar to the work by Shakespeare which is very attractive. I like the passionate aria and acrobatic fighting and I also love their costumes. ”

For most of the European audiences, appreciating Peking Opera was a fresh experience. The majority of the audience, who had never seen a Peking Opera before, was impressed by its beauty. In order to let them get a better understanding of Peking Opera, before the tour, the Italian Confucius Institute held four lectures about this traditional form of art. In addition, a moderator introduced the terms of Chinese culture, Peking Opera, as well as costumes and make up before each performance and some of the gestures such as opening and closing the door and mounting a horse were explained. Moreover, before each piece of the Peking Opera gala, the plot was introduced, so the audience won’t miss the meaning of the productions. The colorful traditional costumes, the varieties of make-up as well as the acrobatic fighting actions all enchanted the audience.
