Katharina Sellheim

Born in Rehren/ Germany in 1976 into a family of musicians. She got her first piano lessons by her mother Doris Sellheim and was also taught the cello by her father, Prof. Friedrich-Jürgen Sellheim.

She started taking piano-lessons at the Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater Hannover aged 15 and finished all her exams with distinction.

From October 1999 until June 2000 she continued her studies in Paris at the Ecole Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot, where she was taught by Prof. Germaine Mounier.

She has attended masterclasses with Paul Badura-Skoda, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Norman Shetler, Eckhart Sellheim and Germaine Mounier.

Miss Sellheim has received scholarships from Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD). She also got generous support from FJS-Gesellschaft zur Förderung junger Künstler and currently by the Richard-Wagner-Society.

Throughout her career, Miss Sellheim has been awarded many prizes including Jugend Musiziert and the First Prize at the GEDOK-Competition in 2002.

Katharina Sellheim performed as a soloist with orchestra and as a recitalist in cities such as Vienna, Hanover, Hamburg, Paris, Berlin, Tahiti, Tonga, Wellington and Sydney.

The works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms have become the core of her repertoire.

Miss Sellheim has rapidly established herself as an accompanist, working together with singers from the State Opera Hamburg (Lied, Recitals) and the First Prizewinner of the ARD-Music Competiton 2003 (Double-Bass).
