With the support of Shanghai Grand Theatre, Hangzhou Grand Theatre, Wuhan Qintai Concert Hall and National Centre for the Performing Arts, the Staaskapelle Dresden completed its 2017 China tour. Cooperating with Wu Promotion for the 6th time, this tour contains various kinds of events to enhance the cultural exchange between China and Germany, such as: a friendly football match, a music critic workshop, an exploration of traditional Chinese music, and so on.

From 15 to 19 November, under the baton of Alan Gilbert, the orchestra presented Richard Strauss’s Sinfonia Domestica, Op. 53, and Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A Major, K488, to Chinese music lovers, while Wagner’s Prelude to Act 3 of Lohengin was rewarded to the audience as an encore. In this tour, Yundi, the famous pianist known for his symbolic music style — romanticism — played one of the most representative works of the classical period: Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K488, by Mozart.

On 14 November an extraordinary football match was organized by Wu Promotion. The Staatskapelle Dresden and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, who were touring in Shanghai at the same time, formed a German musician football team, enjoying an energetic night playing against the Shanghai cultural team comprised of members from the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the SGT and the Shanghai International Arts Festival. The event was live-streamed, attracting more than 4.6 million viewers in total, with the peak simultaneous viewer number reaching 410,000!
