Giorgia Fumanti and Vito DiSalvo, Italy, World Expo 2010

 

On July 26th, 2010 Chinese audiences can enjoy the vocal charm of Giorgia Fumanti under the direction of Conductor Vito DiSalvo at the Shanghai Concert Hall as part of the rich cultural programme of the Italian Pavilion at World Expo 2010 Shanghai.

Italian soprano Giorgia Fumanti sings with purity and grace straddling between pop and classical, Giorgia’s voice draws comparisons to the operatic-pop style of Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman and Barbra Streisand. Known for her amazing voice, Giorgia has performed all over the world and has toured with José Carreras, Michael Bolton, Lang Lang, Zucchero, Gino Paoli, Lucio Dalla, Yu Qiang Dai, Liao Chang Yong, The Russian Red Army Choir, the 12 Girls Band, Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) and many others.

Her debut EMI CD From My Heart charted in the top 20 Billboard Classical Crossover Chart and she has participated in 3 PBS TV Specials in the USA

Born in Fivizzano in Tuscany, she grew up in the nearby small city of Aulla. Her homes now straddles between Aulla (Italy), Montreal (Canada) and Miami (USA).  

Giorgia did not start to sing until the age of 16 when she auditioned for the church choir in her home town of Aulla. The choir director noticed her vocal talents immediately and without hesitation gave her the role of soloist. After two years she joined the famous award-winning choir Il Convitto Armonico, known primarily for its ancient and medieval music in La Spezia, Italy.

Giorgia studied voice at the highly esteemed Music Conservatory of Parma, Italy, as well as with other private vocal coaches in Italy, Canada and the USA.

She has released 4 albums with a fifth one to be released later this fall on Universal. 

Her voice can also be heard on the Korean movie soundtrack CD My Mother Mermaid and in the Hyundai commercial.

Giorgia performed for former ex-Vice President Al Gore, for the Governors of Georgia, Texas and Nevada, as well as for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

China and Asia have become big fans of Giorgia Fumanti. She has released 4 albums, performed for the Special Olympics closing ceremonies, for the official announcement of the World Expo in Shanghai, for Chinese New Year All Star Concert, at the Beijing Olympics (CCTV), at the Opening Ceremony of the Nanning Festival (CCTV) and BTV in Beijing. Giorgia Fumanti was also selected to sing the theme song (Better City, Better Life) of the 2010 World Expo of Shanghai, presented for the first time on national TV on May 1, 2009 (One Year Countdown to the World Expo) beside China’s most famous baritone Liao Chang Yong.

Yukari Nakano, famous Japanese figure skating champion used Giorgia Fumanti’s song Aria in her Exhibition Programs across the world.

This year Giorgia was also featured as a special guest on the PBS TV Special Benise Spanish Guitars. Giorgia will embark on a 40 US city tour with Benise as of September.

Vito DiSalvo - Conductor

Vito DiSalvo was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA and studied music at Duquesne University. He earned his Master of Music degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida in Music Theory and Composition.

DiSalvo has divided his career between thirty-two years as a music educator and his life as a professional musician, arranger, composer, conductor, and producer.

As an accordionist and pianist, DiSalvo has performed professionally for more than forty years. He has played for movie scores including the The Bread My Sweet, with 1970’s teen heartthrob Scot Baio as well as several commercial recordings including jazz singer Nancy Wilson’s Grammy Award Winning Album Turned to Blue on the MCG Jazz Label.

DiSalvo has been involved with many genres of music including Classical, Opera, Jazz, Italian Pop and American Pop. He has produced more than twenty albums for his record label, MHM Productions LLC. DiSalvo has also owned and operated Mifflin Hills Music Publishing LLC since 1977.

Vito DiSalvo has performed with such international artists as the late Luciano Pavarotti, the UK’s Natasha Marsh, Turkey’s Ferhat G..er, and Venetian, Giada Valenti. DiSalvo has served the past three years as Music Director for international singer Patrizio Buanne and as Music Director for the beautiful and talented Giorgia Fumanti. He also serves as MusicDirector/Producer for American born tenor, Matt Morgan and Australian born soprano, Rachelle Durkin.

Vito DiSalvo’s original music has been performed on the HBO American television drama series The Sopranos, on USA national and regional commercials, in promotional videos and documentary films and on the soon to be released (August 13,2010) international motion picture Eat Pray Love, starring Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem, James Franco and Billy Crudup, directed by Ryan Murphy and produced by Dede Gardner and Brad Pitt. You cannot walk into an Italian restaurant in the USA and not hear, through the course of your dinner, the music of Vito DiSalvo.
