Our History

 

2021

  • Together with Wu Promotion, the Berliner Philharmoniker is planning a residency project in Shanghai at two-year intervals, beginning in June 2022. The performances in June 2022 are part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and China. Under the baton of chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, the orchestra will give four concerts during this first residency as part of a “Festival of the Berliner Philharmoniker”. Chamber music activities are also planned, as well as master classes, concert introductions and other outreach and community projects.
  • The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has signed an extension of their five-year exclusive touring partnership in Greater China Area from 2022 to 2027 with Wu Promotion. Both the Vienna Philharmonic and Wu Promotion remain committed to strengthening their exclusive partnership through excellent performances led by the greatest conductors of our time. Combined with the development of renewed outreach activities, exhibitions and networking with local musicians, concert halls and music fans, this agreement has us looking forward with great joy to more cultural exchange over the next five years.
  • In 2021, both two of the world's leading classical music orchestras, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic, have entered into an exclusive long-term partnership with Wu Promotion in Greater China.
  • Represented the tour by Wu Promotion, the Vienna Philharmonic returned to Egypt in its 179-year history, after their tour back to the Arabic country in 1950. Led by the Italian conductor Riccardo Muti, the orchestra opened the new concert hall of the City of Arts and Culture in the new administrative capital of Cairo, delighting the Egyptian audience with their excellent skills and tradition of European classical music.
  • Organized by Wu Promotion, the NCPA Orchestra has finished its first national tour in China with great success, with conductor LÜ Jia, violinist Siqing Lu, soprano SONG Yuanming, tenor WANG Chong, leaving behind amazing and unforgettable moments in Nanjing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Changsha, Shenzhen and Guangzhou with their professional and exquisite skills. 
  • Guangzhou Symphony Youth Orchestra (GSYO) has commemorated its first decade on tour with Wu Promotion, bringing their joy and talented young musicians to nearly 10.000 spectators at the Guangzhou Xinghai Concert Hall, Wuhan Qintai Concert Hall, Xi’an Concert Hall and Shanghai Symphony Hall. It has also meant a celebration to Wu Promotion that has arranged the 5th tour for this juvenile ensemble.
  • Organized by Wu Promotion, the Shanghai Ballet staged Swan Lake and Bright Red Star at NCPA in Beijing.
  • Organized by Wu Promotion, Shanghai Yue Opera House staged Dream of the Red Chamber and The Romance of The West Chamber in Tianjin Grand Theatre to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with the Tianjin audience.
  • 2022 marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of Master Yu Zhenfei, the first head of the Shanghai Kun Opera Company (SKOC). Taking this opportunity, Wu Promotion and the SKOC will join forces for the fourth time to explore new opportunities for the development of kunju genre in the era of epidemic with multiple performances of their famous “The Peony Pavilion" in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other Chinese cities.
  • In 2021, when the epidemic is still erratic, Wu Promotion strives to explore new models of performance in the post-epidemic era and still insists on bringing quality enjoyment to all audiences by launching the HD Screening in theatres and online concerts. 37 quality productions have been selected by Wu Promotion throughout 2021, covering five themes: symphony concerts, opera, ballet, the Berlin Festival and German-language musicals. The series, in partnership with several theatre across China, brought a total of 204 HD screenings to 25,200 audiences in 16 cities, not including the 79 we had to cancel, and we invited 22 experts for pre-show talks. In April, our HD screening presented the world premiere of 8k restored version of concert of Herbert von Karajan with Berliner Philharmoniker. In November, four 8K LIVE SCREENINGS, co-organised by Wu Promotion and Xinghai Concert Hall, were successfully held at Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou. The four legendary concert recordings were the first in the world to feature 8K quality and 22.2ch multi-channel surround sound.
  • THEATERTREFFEN in china·2021 special edition presented Maria Stuart and Tripping Stones State Theatre, Die Kränkungen der Menschheit and Five Easy Pieces at Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, Guangzhou Grand Theatre, Huaxia Arts Centre and Wuzhen Theatre Festival.
  • Wu Promotion brought the first HD screening of a German-language musical I am from Austria to Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center.
  • In September, with the aim to bring the best of the world's performing arts to Chinese audiences, Wu Promotion has teamed up with China's largest theatre company, Poly Theatre, to launch a new brand: “Classic Live”. In December, "Classical Live" made its debut with a online screening of six productions at the 7th Silk Road International Arts Festival.
  • The 2021 China and Russia Happy Chinese New Year online concert, organized by Wu Promotion, live streamed on Feb 10th at 19h00 (Moscow time) in cooperation with the Bolshoi Theatre Chamber Orchestra and Beijing Symphony Orchestra from the Chamber Hall of Zaryadye Concert Hall and the concert hall of the National Centre for the Performing Arts.
  • Two online concerts of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra screened on the 49>th Hong Kong Arts Festival, including Andrés Orozco-Estrada’s inaugural concert with Wiener Symphoniker as the orchestra’s new music director and Gala concert dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Franz Lehár (world premiere screening).
  • The "HORS LES MURS" online concert by the Orchestre national de France brought a special "520" online Valentine's Day gift to Chinese audiences.
  • In collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi, Wu Promotion invited Ms. Zhao Cong, Vice-President of the China National Traditional Orchestra and famous pipa player to virtually join ‘Visits from Bait Al Oud’ concert; a beautiful recorded performance featuring musicians of Beit Al Oud Abu Dhabi alongside the well-known Chinese musician which was entitled ’The Silk Road’ and was especially broadcasted for World Music Day.
  • The opening concert of the 2021 China Culture Festival in Russia was held online, with the Nanjing Chinese Orchestra and the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra performing Russian and Chinese repertoire.
  • Wu Promotion has experimented with cross-border collaboration, contributing to the "Chinese fad Music Festival" at the Beijing Planetarium and the innovative "The Great Wall Starry Night Festival" in Beijing Wtown. The first "The Great Wall Starry Night Festival" had to be postponed due to the epidemic in August. In 2022, Wu Promotion will polish the festival's productions more carefully to deliver a better experience and excellent productions to every audience.

2020

  • China Philharmonic Orchestra topped off with an incredible concert at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest their Central and Eastern Europe Tour. Under the baton of Maestro Yu Long, the orchestra has spread the New Year wishes with their unique music throughout Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania.
  • The 23rd CNYC was presented by Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra to around 10,000 overseas audiences. Seven concerts were done in a total of ten cities of five countries, crossing 8000 kilometers in 18 days. This was the most special tour in the 23-year history of the Chinese New Year Folk Concert: the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra set off before the Chinese New Year and completed the tour amidst the many pressures of the epidemic.
  • As the battle against the corona virus pneumonia has come to a critical juncture, the outbreak in China has touched many hearts all over the world. Artists cannot be on the front line with the medical staff, but their sense of empathy and love for the world is the same. Starting on February, Wu Promotion initiates "Stand by You", a series of videos alongside our overseas cooperation artists to send their blessing and support to China. The videos has been viewed a total of nearly 300,000 times on Tencent Video.
  • With the pulse of the post-epidemic era and the vision of presenting the best of German language theatres, Wu Promotion, in cooperation with the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, Hangzhou XIXI LIVE and Goethe-Institut China, with the support of “Volkswagen Group China” presented the "Theatertreffen in China: 2020 Special Edition". In the framework of a series of events, Five Easy Pieces and Tyrannis were presented at Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center and Hangzhou XIXI LIVE. "Five Easy Pieces" and "Tyrannis" were presented online from November 27 to December 10 on Tencent Video art channel.
  • To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a special concert recording event was held at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing On September 3rd, 2020. Under the baton of Mr. Xiaotang Xia, the China Philharmonic Orchestra and the distinguished Pipa player Cong Zhao gave an outstanding concert.
  • Moscow and Beijing celebrated the 25th anniversary of the partnership between the two cities with a concert held at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing on Dec 8.Organized by Wu Promotion, the concert saw live performances by Beijing Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Li Biao. Besides live performances, Osipov State Russian Folk Orchestra and Bolshoi Theatre Chamber Orchestra gave an online performance under the baton of conductor Vladimir Andropov, with Chinese musical pieces. The concert closed with a performance by both Beijing Symphony Orchestra and Bolshoi Theatre Chamber Orchestra under the baton of conductor Liu Zhi, performing a Chinese song titled My Motherland.
  • In the anniversary year of Beethoven’ 250th birthday, Wu Promotion presented the Chinese version of Rudolf Buchbinder's book --"Mein Beethoven: Leben mit dem Meister" as a special gift the music fans in China.

2019

  • Under the baton of conductor Maestro Christian Thielemann and Maestro Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra undertook its third large-scale China tour. During the 11-days tour, VPO presented 8 top-quality concerts to nearly 13,000 audiences in 4 cities. This year’s tour was the third year of the 5-years exclusive touring partnership agreement between Wu Promotion and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • The 4th "Theatertreffen in China" ended with great success in July 2019. This year, the jury had selected two distinctive dramas for the Chinese audiences: Die Odyssee, and Trommeln in der Nacht. The 6 performances and other activities attracted a great amount of attention in print media, network media and we-media with over 150 reports, and the topical discussion on social media gained 1.77 million mentions.
  • Led by Italian Maestro Riccardo Chailly, Lucerne Festival Orchestra ended their second Chinese tour after they successfully presented the 1st “Lucerne Festival in Shanghai” in 2018. 6 concerts in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen restored the original version of the Lucerne Festival.
  • 2019 marked the first year of Wu Promotion’s exclusive strategic cooperation with Mariinsky Theatre for the next 5 years. Led by Artistic Director Valery Gergiev, the Mariinsky Theatre toured China for 20 days, visiting 4 cities and presenting 16 performances including symphony, opera and ballet productions to over 10,000 spectators. This is also the fourth year in a row that Wu Promotion has introduced Mariinsky performances since the success of the “Mariinsky Festival in China” in 2016.
  • World-renowned pianist Rudolf Buchbinder had a tour in China again between 13th and 23rd May along with Staatskapelle Dresden - an orchestra ranking among the top ten in the world.
  • About 10,000 audiences attended the six concerts featuring the complete piano concertos by Beethoven. It is also the ninth time Wu Promotion has worked with Staatskapelle Dresdenthe - the world's oldest symphony orchestra since 2011.
  • Led by conductor Christoph Eschenbach, SWR Symphonieorchester made a successful debut tour in China. Five concerts were held respectively in Shenzhen Concert Hall, Shanghai Symphony Hall, Shanghai Chenshan Lawn Broadcast Music Festival, Wuhan Qintai Concert Hall, and Shanxi Poly Grand Theatre, attracting nearly 10,000 audiences.
  • The Dresden Kreuzchor realized their 12th Asian tour in August with seven cappella concerts in Shanghai, Nanjing, Tianjin, Beijing, Xiamen, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
    In August, Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company presented the classic ballets “Le Corsaire” and “Giselle” kicked off the NCPA Dance Festival 2019. In October, Teatro alla Scala gathered a team of 250 people to present for the first time in China the Mozart’s opera "La Finta Giardiniera" and "Die Zauberflöte" in Shanghai opening the 21st Shanghai International Festival.
  • On its 4th cooperation with Wu Promotion, Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg embarked on its longest tour in China presenting during 5 weeks 23 performances which include “Anna Karenina”, “Beyond Sin” and “Tchaikovsky” in Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou and Beijing.“Mini Classical” is a yearlong running project of Wu Promotion since over a decade. From March to December, we are touring a pianist and a chamber group each month, presenting 137 performances in the whole year, summing up to 1/3 of the total amount of performances of Wu Promotion in 2019.
  • To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, China Philharmonic Orchestra commissioned to Wu Promotion the "China Night", a series of 6 international concerts performed by renowned international orchestras such us Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, Mariinsky Orchestra in St. Petersburg, Philadelphia Orchestra, Filarmonica della Scala in Milan, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo, Orchestra National du Capitole de Toulouse under the leadership of famous innovative Chinese conductors like Xu Zhong, Zhang Guoyong, Tan Dun, Tang Muhai, Xia Xiaotang, Tan Lihua that delighted an audience of 9,000 viewers.
  • The 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Russia was celebrated in August with the invitation to China Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Xia Xiaotang to perform at the Mariinsky Far East Festival under the Artistic Direction of Valery Gergiev. Besides, in December, the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater returned to Russia after 58 years, presenting in St. Petersburg and Moscow the large-scale dance drama "Confucius".
  • The China National Peking Opera Company performed the classic Peking Opera production Havoc in the Heavenly Kingdom for more than 3,000 enthusiastic audiences and gained outstanding popularity. It’s the second time for Peking Opera Festival to be held in Geneva since its premiere in 2015.
  • Under the baton of distinguished conductor Pang Kapang, the Suzhou Chinese Orchestra completed the 22nd Grand Chinese New Year Concert tour, the longest one ever. Within 27 days, the 200 Chinese musicians travelled 16,000 kilometers across 13 cities in 9 countries and gave 13 performances for 13,000 audiences.
  • Thirteen days, 8400 overseas audiences, and five performances - Diary of John Rabe, hit the world’s mainstream theatres including Berlin State Opera, Elbe Philharmonic Hall in Hamburg, and Ronacher Theatre in Vienna. It was the first time that a China-made opera was mounted at the three world-renowned stages.
  • The year 2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to China and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Portugal. 17 different youth orchestras from nine “the Belt and Road” countries enjoyed the cross-cultural exchange and established firm friendships through music. Also, Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra completed an international tour to Portugal in July. Macao Orchestra had a 12-days tour in Portugal.
  • With the support of Chin’s State Council Information Office and the National Radio and Television Administration, China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) accomplished five concerts in Japan and South Korea before the opening of G20 Summit in Osaka.

2018

  • Under the baton of conductor Maestro Franz Welser-Möst, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra undertook its second large-scale China tour. During the 10-days tour, VPO presented 6 top-quality concerts to nearly 10,000 audiences in 3 cities, and the orchestra realized its debut in Tianjin. This year’s tour was the second year of the 5-years exclusive touring partnership agreement between Wu Promotion and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • The 3rd "Theatertreffen in China" ended with great success in July 2018. This year, the jury had selected one distinctive drama for the Chinese audiences: Five Easy Pieces. The 6 performances in 3 cities attracted a great amount of attention in print media, network media and we-media with over 100 reports, over 380,000 mentions in social media and reached in total over 5,000,000 people.
  • Led by Italian Maestro Riccardo Chailly, Lucerne Festival Orchestra successfully achieved the 1st “Lucerne Festival in Shanghai”. Four concerts at Shanghai Symphony Hall and one special performance as part of the 20th China Shanghai International Arts Festival completed the festival. The concert was acclaimed as one of the top art events in 2018.
  • In the 470th anniversary of its existence, under the baton of principal conductor Maestro Christian Thielemann, Staatskapelle Dresden successfully realized its 2018 China tour presenting master pieces of Schumann. The tour is the 7th cooperation between Staatskapelle Dresden and Wu Promotion since 2011.
  • “A symbol of Russian culture and art”, the Mariinsky Theater performed the opera War & Peace in August and the ballet Swan Lake in December respectively. After Mariinsky Theatre Festival in China in 2016 and 2017, it is the third year for Wu Promotion to act as the agent to introduce the world-class Mariinsky Theatre in China.
  • St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, with the 80 years old Maestro Yuri Temirkanov and extraordinary pianist Boris Berezovsky, completed their 2018 concert tour in China. With 5 concerts, the orchestra meant to celebrate the 145th birth year of Rachmaninoff. 
  • WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln along with the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln and the SWR Vokalensemble realized their largest Asian tour with 170 musicians. Under the baton of chief conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste, the orchestra performed Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in D Minor, Brahms's chorus masterpiece, Fate of Destiny and other master pieces.
  • Only two years since the last tour, Wu Promotion collaborated again with Balletto del Teatro alla Scala to bring the original Italian academic technique to Chinese audiences. During the one-month tour, the ballet provided 15 performances of classical and romantic repertoires, Don Quixote and Giselle.
  • 2018 China tour was the 3rd cooperation between Wu Promotion and the great choreographer Boris Eifman along with his acclaimed company. Based on the novel The Brothers Karamazov of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Beyond Sin is an attempt to study the origins of the moral catastrophe of the Karamazovs and the nature of human depravity and spiritual salvation.
  • “Mini Classical” is a yearlong running project of Wu Promotion since over a decade. From March to December, we are touring a pianist and a chamber group each month, presenting 125 performances in the whole year, summing up to 1/3 of the total amount of performances of Wu Promotion in 2018.
  • Wu Promotion’s yearly cultural project The Grand Chinese New Year Concert, supported by the Chinese Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, completed its 21st touring year with the China National Traditional Orchestra, the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater and the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra bringing almost 300 musicians to 2 continents into 10 countries and 20 cities in a tour lasting in total 33 days. Once again Chinese musical traditions were successfully brought to meet Western audiences who welcomed the musicians with a warm and enthusiastic response.
  • 2018 marked the 40th anniversary of Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe. In the aim of spreading the Chinese traditional culture overseas, the company presented the classical Kunqu masterpiece Four Dreams in Berlin and Sochi gaining enthusiastic feedback. It’s the first time that the renowned German Berliner Festspiele and Russian Sirius Science and Art Park have welcomed the Kunqu art with its 600-years long history.   

2017

  • The world famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (VPO) has remarkably concluded its first large-scale tour in China of its history after the exclusive agency contract with Wu Promotion in 2014. It was also the first time conductor Andris Nelsons ever came to China.

  • “2017 Theatertreffen in China” hailed a great success. Nearly 3,000 seats in 5 shows of two German theatre productions “der die mann” and “Tripping Stones State Theatre” were all sold out. This year’s “Theatertreffen in China” received highly attention from various media and heated discussion on website, covering a total of 3,400,000, proving this brand is gradually going mature in China.

  • The second “Mariinsky Theatre Festival in China” achieved great success. Russian Maestro Valery Gergiev led the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Mariinsky Ballet and the ballet company of Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, a total of 500 artists, presented classic symphonic concerts and ballets.

  • 2017 marks the 190th anniversary of death of Ludwig van Beethoven. Wu Promotion has arranged an elaborate ‘Beethoven Full Course’ for classical music aficionados in memory of this great composer. Piano virtuoso Rudolf Buchbinder has been invited to perform all 32 of Beethoven’s piano sonatas; Vienna Symphony Orchestra began a symphonic marathon under the baton of Philip Jordan, offering all 9 symphonies of Beethoven.

  • After 16 years, world renowned pianist Yundi Li collaborated with Wu Promotion again, giving tours in China with two European symphony orchestras, aiming to present high-end concerts for his fans. In August and September, in his cooperation with Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Yundi not only performed as a pianist, but also a conductor for the first time in his career. Wu Promotion’s sixth cooperation with Staaskapelle Dresden, also took cultural exchanges to a new level.

  • St. Petersburg Eifman Ballet founded by the great choreographer Boris Eifman started its second cooperation with Wu Promotion for the production Rodin, the acclaimed sculptor at their 40 anniversary of establishment.

  • The 20th Grand Chinese New Year Concert Tour consist of over three hundred musicians from Guangdong National Orchestra of China, Chinese Traditional Orchestra of the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, Zhejiang Traditional Orchestra and Shaanxi Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra have completed the 4 routes by giving performances on the stages of 27 historical cities in 14 countries.   • China Philharmonic Orchestra started its 8th collaboration with Wu Promotion under the lead of the famous conductor Long Yu. The orchestra toured in Kawasaki, Tokyo and Taipei. What is worth mentioning is that this tour in Japan with China Philharmonic Orchestra is a new breakthrough for Wu Promotion’s overseas tour markets.

  • With the organization of Wu Promotion, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra became the first invited Chinese orchestra to perform in Luzern Festival in Switzerland, the Tiroler Festspiele and Grafenegg Festival in Austria and the summer music festival of Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. Shanghai Symphony Orchestra took a big step forward in increasing Chinese orchestras’ global impact by performing in world-class mainstream music festivals and famous concert halls.

  • In May, experimental Peking Opera ‘Faust’ was brought to Germany for the first time, CNPOC even became the first Peking Opera company ever to be invited to the famous Internationale Maifestspiele Wiesbaden (aka. International May Festival) and Musikfestspiele Saar. In November, with the support of the China National Peking Opera Company, the 9th Chinese Opera Festival had a successful conclusion.

  • Hosted by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao, co-organized by the Instituto Cultural of Macao, the Haunting Melodies of the Passion of the Silk Road — the International Youth Music Festival ( 20 – 27 November) gathered over 270 young artists from countries and areas along the ‘Belt and Road’.

2016

  • Mariinsky Theater Festival, held by Wu Promotion and the Mariinsky Theater, has been undoubtedly a sensational cultural event in 2016. In October and November, the Mariinsky Opera, the Mariinsky Ballet and the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra made a tour to four cities in China (Shanghai, Harbin, Guangzhou and Tianjin). The performing arts gala, which lasted for a month, greatly impacted the cultural field of China. It is worth to be remembered not only because of the scale (over 600 people participated) and the programs (16 performances of Russian classical opera, ballet and symphony concerts), but also the long journey through North and South China covering an estimated distance of over 5,000 km.

  • The 19th Grand Chinese New Year Concert (CNYC), held between January 26 and February 13, 2016, was the first time for Wu Promotion to collaborate with the Chinese Traditional Orchestra of the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater. The whole concert tour lasted 21 days with 11 performances, crossing over 19 cities and 4 countries. The orchestra traveled in total about 5,000 km to play for a total audience of nearly 8,500 people.

  • The 8th Peking Opera Festival was completed successfully in Darwin Entertainment Center on 1st of December. As part of the Darwin Entertainment Centre's 30th Anniversary celebrations Wu Promotion presented a gala program of three classic excerpts as well as two full length evening performances: One Good Turn Deserves Another and The Legend of White Snake. The event was supported on highest government and private levels, and Jingju Theatre Company was hosted by the Chief Minister at Parliament House to present a short excerpt of Peking Opera to the present dignitaries.

  • From late April to early May 2016, Wu Promotion cooperated with the China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) and accomplished "Maritime Silk Road Tour 2016". In nine days, CPO not only gave three concerts in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India, but also participated in local cultural events and non-profit workshops. This is the first time for an orchestra from China to perform in South Asian countries, and it is another historical moment achieved together by Wu Promotion and CPO.

  • On December 15, China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) embarked on its first Cuba tour at National Theater of Cuba under the baton of Maestro Long Yu. Together with the renowned Cuba conductor Enrique Perez Mesa, CPO presented a program that unites Asia and Europe through the immortal notes.

  • Theatertreffen was firstly held in China from June 21 to July 9, 2016. Three most remarkable plays from Theatertreffen 2015 were staged at National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing as well as Shanghai Daning Theater, i.e., Common Ground by the Maxim Gorki Theater, John Gabriel Borkman by Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, and Waiting for Godot by Deutsches Theater Berlin. Activities such as pre- and post-performance talks, lectures as well as workshops were also held during Theatertreffen in China, which attracted nearly 3,000 people to come.

  • Balletto del Teatro alla Scala completed their 2016 China tour on 17th of September - the first time the company has appeared in China in a decade, since their last appearance in 2006. This time they performed romantic ballet Giselle as well as the contemporary work Cello Suites (In den Winden im Nichts) choreographed by Heinz Spoerli. The tour also marked the beginning of an artistic collaboration between Wu Promotion and this world-renowned ballet company. From August 31st to September 17th, Balletto del Teatro alla Scala dedicated 15 splendid performances to audiences at the famous Tianjin Grand Theater, Shanghai Oriental Arts Center and Guangzhou Opera House.

  • As Rudolf Buchbinder reached his 70th year, “PHIDEON Classical Music Tour: Rudolf Buchbinder & Staatskapelle Dresden China Tour 2016”, fully sponsored by SAIC VOLKSWAGEN, started in Shanghai on April 24. This tour was the first time for Staatskapelle Dresden to appear in both metropolises and second tier cities of China. The orchestra continued northward and performed along the way in Suzhou, Jinan, Linyi and Tianjin, and finally reached Beijing on May 1 for their last concert in NCPA. The charisma of Rudolf Buchbinder and Staatskapelle Dresden was perfectly presented in the three Mozart piano concerts.

  • The China Tour 2016 of Royal Danish Ballet was organized by Wu Promotion and staged in June at National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) and Shanghai Oriental Art Center. It was already eight years ago since Royal Danish Ballet, one of the oldest ballet companies in the world, visited China the last time. The program not only included Napoli and La Sylphide, the representative works of “Danish School”, but also George Balanchine’s magnificent ballet Theme and Variations.

  • Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra started their tour in China on October 26, 2016. During three weeks, they visited six major cities of China (Beijing, Tianjin, Shenyang, Shanghai, Nanjing and Wuhan) with a concert program of all Tchaikovsky symphonies. Renowned Russian conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev conducted the concerts in Beijing and Tianjin, and conductor Mischa Damev led the rest of the tour. The devotion and passion of the orchestra greatly impressed the Chinese audience.

  • In 2016, Wu Entertainment presented two high-level stage shows to touch family and children audiences. On October 20th, Russian Clown Theatre Semianyki - Семьянюки kicked off their China tour with performances in Beijing Comedy Theatre, Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre and Zhongshan Culture and Arts Centre. On December 2nd, Berlin-based masters of mask theatre came to Beijing with a hilarious tale of a family-run hotel set in an Alpine resort, where they are struggling to keep the business alive and the corpses hidden. We wish to widen the range of genres that we offer to our partners while connecting with artists and festivals all over the world.

2015

  • Organized by Wu Promotion, the China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) accomplished the historical 2015 Silk Road Tour. During the 17 days, CPO crossed over Asian and European continents along the ancient Silk Road, and staged a total of seven concerts. More historical significance is: CPO is the first foreign performing arts group to visit Iran after the UN Security Council and Iran reached an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program after many years of dispute. Despite difficulties, the tour was finally realized after more than 6 months of careful planning and preparation.

  • Tyrolean Festival Erl toured China the first time. Led by founder and artistic director Gustav Kuhn, Tyrolean Festival Erl performed the “24-hour Ring Cycle”, widely regarded as Richard Wagner greatest opera, to Chinese audience. It was five years since 2010 when Wu Promotion firstly presented famous Der Ring des Nibelungen in China, and Tyrolean Festival Erl’s Der Ring des Nibelungen was firstly staged in Asia. Tyrolean Festival Erl also made their debut at Beijing Music Festival, presenting another two operas of Wagner, Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg and Tristan und Isolde.

  • Beijing People’s Art Theatre staged Lao She’s most famous work Teahouse in Deutsches Schauspielhaus, and it was the first time for Wu Promotion to present a Chinese drama production abroad. This tour was also the biggest scale for Beijing People’s Art Theatre in over a decade time, and it was 35 years since this well-received work was performed in Germany.

  • Invited by the second China and Central and Eastern European Countries Cultural Cooperation Forum as well as by Dance Fest Skopje of Macedonia, China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater successfully debut the Chinese dance Confucius in Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Serbia. This was also the first time for Wu Promotion to present dance production abroad.
  • Shanghai Symphony Orchestra finished their first South America Tour, and performed three wonderful concerts in Municipal Theatre (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Cidade Das Artes (Rio de Janeiro) and in Teatro Colon (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

  • Led by chief conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne performed the complete symphonies of Brahms in both China and South Korea. It was also the first time for Wu Promotion to present concert events in South Korea.
  • The 18th "Grand Chinese New Year Concert" was successfully held in Europe. Shanghai Chinese Orchestra toured eight cities in five European countries. Year 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of the concert in KKL Culture and Convention Center Lucerne. “Listening to Chinese national music during the Chinese New Year” gradually becomes a new tradition. “Grand Chinese New Year Concert” is really worthy of the name as a world-class national music brand.

  • On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Swedish diplomatic relations, Wu Promotion collaborated the first time with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. The tour, sponsored by the “Swedish Icon” Volvo, was led by guest conductor Kent Nagano and featured one of the most compelling young violinists at present, Ray Chen.

  • As commemoration of the victory of World War II, St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of 80-year old Alexander Dmitriev, toured China the first time and performed a number of Russian works including Shostakovich’s seventh symphony.

2014

  • During the opening performance of the 42nd Hong Kong Arts Festival, the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, under the baton of proniment conductor Markus Stenz and together with star clarinetist Sabine Meyer, presented an extraordinary musical feast for the audience in Hong Kong. Shortly after, the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln performed at National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, as part of the concert series celebrating the 150th anniversary of Richard Strauss. In Shanghai, Wu Promotion invited three leading Wagner singers - Anja Kampe, Lance Ryan, and Eric Halfvason to perform together with the orchestra–in memory of the remarkable performance of The Ring of the Nibelung at the Shanghai World Expo, four years ago.

  • The Wiener Philharmoniker signed a five-year contract with Wu Promotion which authorized Wu Promotion as the exclusive agent for organizing their performances from 2017 to 2021 in the Greater China Area including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

  • The Dutch National Ballet performed at the 16th Shanghai China International Arts Festival and was enthusiastically received by the audience. Moreover, as one of the most anticipated performances in the 2014 National Center for the Performing Arts Dance Festival and the Hangzhou Grand Theater’s annual program, the Dutch National Ballet dazzled audience with their performances of Giselle and a Ballet Gala.

  • The International Tchaikovsky Competition signed an agreement with Wu Promotion that grants the company the exclusive right to represent the prize winner of the 2015 and 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition, for concerts in Greater China Area and Korea.
  • In 2014, Wu Promotion also set for the first time foot on Australia enlarging its activities to the last of world’s six inhabited continents. The Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra performed in Sydney and Canberra on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Sister-State relationship between Guangdong Province and New South Wales. Their memorable concerts were the highlight of the 35th anniversary celebrations of Guangdong-New South Wale relations and the Guangdong Culture Week in Sydney.

  • On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Mei Lanfang’s birth, the Jingju Theater Company of Beijing toured in America and Russia. Led by Mei Lanfang’s son Meibaojiu, the company performed in the renowned Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and Mariinsky Theatre, and received great acclaim from the media.

  • To celebrate the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, two prestigious UK theater companies, the National Theater of Scotland and the Royal Shakespeare Company, jointly performed Dunsinane in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and other cities. Audiences in Taiwan also had the opportunity to enjoy the play, which was featured in the Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival.

  • The China National Acrobatic Troupe gave a spectacular performance at the international arts festival “The Spring of Culture” in Bahrain. 2013

  • From May 21st – 31st, organized by Wu Promotion, the Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing held another large scale global tour. A number of Peking Opera Festivals were presented successfully in the Netherlands, Austria and Italy. Following the celebrated tour in Europe, Wu Promotion presented for the first time a Peking Opera Festival in South America in October. The classic productions One Good Turn Deserves Another, The Tale of a White Snake, and Monkey Makes Havoc in the Heaven were performed in Rio de Janeiro, Petropolis and Sao Paulo respectively. These Peking Opera performances not only received with enthusiasm from the South American audience but also provoked great interest from the international media.
  • From September 6th - 16th, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra (BSO) gained great success on their seventh tour in Europe. The orchestra made its debut at the prestigious Dvorak Festival and Bruckner Festival. The European enthusiasts were impressed by its excellent performance. In order to honor BSO’s Music Director and Principal Conductor, Maestro Tan Lihua and his contribution to the promotion of Dvorak’s work in China and the world, he was honored with an artist achievement award by the Dvorak Festival and the Dvorak Family.
  • Following the seventh European tour's perfect ending, the BSO started its first tour to the American continent, making its debut both in Mexico and the United States, giving seven excellent performances in the period from October 7th to 21st. BSO not only made its debut at Carnegie Hall, the most prestigious music hall in the United States, but was also the first Chinese orchestra to perform at the International Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico. The orchestra presented an interesting program combining Chinese modern compositions with Western classics, delivering a message of friendship to all the audiences.
  • In February, the world renowned tabla player Zakir Hussain joined hands with the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI) to make their debut at the magnificent Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman. The wonderful performance by SOI had a far-reaching importance for the internationalization of Wu Promotion. It started a new page in Wu Promotion’s history by organizing a foreign artistic ensemble to give cross-country performances (out of China) for the first time.
  • Led by the world-renowned dancer Maestro Vladimir Malakhov, Staatsballett Berlin debuted in China and staged eight performances in the NCPA in Beijing and Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center in Taipei. Each of the performances was received by the audience with thunderous applause.
  • Organized by Wu Promotion, the China National Acrobatic Troupe staged the classical production Splendid! during the Beiteddine Festival, Lebanon. Their successful performances captivated the audience and promoted traditional Chinese culture in the Middle East.

2012

  • On January 30th, under the baton of the world-famous Maestro Yu Long, the China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) successfully held the opening concert for the 'China Culture Year' at the Berlin Konzerthaus in order to celebrate the 40th diplomatic anniversary between China and Germany. The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto performed by the well-known Chinese violinist Ning Feng and the Symphonic Peking Opera The Drunken Concubine by famous Peking Opera singer Wang Yi gave a glimpse of the essence of Chinese culture and, impressed the audience in Germany immensely.
  • Wu Promotion's fifteenth "Grand Chinese New Year Concert" tour presented by the Chinese Traditional Orchestra of Inner Mongolia, left its footprint over Middle East area and Europe. The performances by Chinese artists were enthusiastically received by the local audiences, of which included Oman (Muscat), Switzerland (Lucerne), Italy (Bologna) and Germany (Bremen). This is the first time that Grand Chinese New Year Concert landed in the Middle East.
  • In the prolific year of 2012, Wu Promotion expanded its business into the Middle East by establishing a performing arts agency. Besides the Grand Chinese New Year Concert premiered in the Royal Opera House Muscat in Oman, the Chinese acrobatics also made its debut in the Middle East at the Muscat Festival in Oman with 80 performances in four weeks.
  • Organized by Wu Promotion, a brand-new Peking Opera epic Red Cliff - a production of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, achieved a great success on its first European tour. The national Peking Opera stars, such as Yu Kuizhi, Li Shengsu, as well as more than one hundred artists, giving performances in Burgtheater Wien (Austria) , the Hungarian State Opera House (Hungary) and the National Theatre Prague (Czech). The tour showcased the unique charm of Peking Opera to the European audience and received critical acclaim everywhere it went. The three consecutive performances of Red Cliff together with the Peking Opera Galas later performed by Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing at the Burgtheater Wien, formed the Festival of Peking Opera.
  • Collaborated with Wu Promotion, a tour under the name of “Peking Opera Festival” was carried out by Jingju Theater Company of Beijing and made a great success in Germany and Italy. Three classical productions - The Orphan of Zhao, Lü Bu and Diao Chan and The Legend of the White Snake, as well as various galas of Peking Opera were staged at the Reithalle München, the Teatro Massimo Bellini and the Teatro Rendano. These successful attempts to promote Peking Opera at the world level have not only given the audiences a true taste of Chinese culture but also provoked fervent reporting from many international media.
  • The National Dance Company Wales toured in China with the prestigious Olympic work Dream as well as three programmes By Singing Light, Whiskers and The Grammar of Silence.
  • After a successful tour in 2011, Staatskapelle Dresden of Germany came back to China once again, giving 5 performances in Taipei, Shanghai and Beijing under the baton of the renowned Maestro Christian Thielemann. Many media claimed that they were the best performances of year 2012. The Staatskapelle Dresden 2012 China tour was again sponsored by "Volkswagen Import - THE PHAETON."
  • The year 2012 marked the starting point of collaboration between Wu Promotion and Taiwan performing arts industry. Before the Staatskapelle Dresden made its reappearance in the Mainland China, it gave a brilliant concert to the music lovers in Taipei. Soon after, the Taiwan Philharmonic, who representing the highest artistic level in Taiwan, visited three cities in the Mainland China for the first time. Almost at the same time, the well known Ju Percussion Group organized a tour in the campus of prestigious Chinese universities. All these endeavors have achieved notable successes.

2011

  • Wu Promotion organized the 14th Grand Chinese New Year Concert's Tour of Europe. The famous conductor Mr. Yan Huichang and almost one hundred musicians from the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra brought their best wishes for the Chinese New Year to European audiences. The concert included the well known and loved Chinese compositions A Peacock Flying to the Southeast, and The Silk Road Fantasia Suite. The programme also included famous Chinese symphonies A Va Mountain and The Yellow River Capriccio.
  • Organized by Wu Promotion, Staatskapelle Dresden China Tour 2011 achieved sensational success. The 463-year-old orchestra captured Chinese audiences with its splendid music and received the audience's acclamation. This tour was sponsored by Volkswagen Import - THE PHAETON.
  • On the occasion of the reopening of the National Museum in Beijing and the opening of the exhibition of the Art of the Enlightenment the Staatskapelle Dresden, Bayerische Staatsoper and the Berlin National Symphony, the conducted by maestro Lorin Maazel, performed together an unforgettable concert.
  • Wu Promotion begins to do Artist Management, in order to promote emerging Chinese young artists on the international performing arts platform. Mangle Huang, one of the most active Chinese violinists, became our first artist.
  • "Aodili – The Sounds of Music" and "Austria dances with China – Let's Waltz!" brought the climax to the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Austria and China. "Aodili – The Sounds of Music" featured a selection of some of the finest Austrian musicians and performers, with different musical backgrounds from classical to folk, from traditional to pop music. A Gala Concert was held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, attended by Mr. Werner Farman, the Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, and Mrs. Uyunqimuge, the Vice President of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress. "Austria dances with China – Let's Waltz!" – a series of free waltz and ballroom dance classes and workshops held in Beijing and Shanghai – which attracted nearly 8000 Chinese residents.
  • Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal from Canada, Balletto di Roma from Italy and Introdans from Netherlands, the world well-known dance companies, brought phenomenally successful performances to Chinese audiences.
  • Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra and Chinese famous conductor Muhua Tang launched their first large-scale European tour. The orchestra traveled through Italy, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Sweden and Belgium and reached eight concert halls in a total of 20 days. They participated in the most prestigious classical music festivals, such as the MITO Festival in Turin and the Prague Dvorak Festival in the Czech Republic. This is the first time the Chinese orchestra was invited by the festivals.
  • As the prologue of the Year of Chinese Culture in Germany, the full-length version of The Palace of Eternal Youth by the Shanghai Kun Opera was performed over four consecutive nights at the Cologne Opera House successfully. The show was gilded by an all-star line-up, which included Cai Zhengren, and Zhang Jingxian. Following the success of Richard Wagner's masterpiece The Ring of the Nibelung by the Cologne Opera House in Shanghai, the Cologne Opera House invited Shanghai Kun Opera to Cologne. This grand premiere is the first time that traditional Chinese Kun Opera has made an appearance with such a large-scale production on the Europe stage.
  • The Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich - Switzerland's oldest and most distinguished orchestra - led by one of the world finest conductors David Zinman - performed the Schubert's Symphony No. 7, "Unfinished", and Mahler's Symphony No. 5 in Beijing and Shanghai successfully. This is the second tour for the orchestra since last time they came to China under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach at the end of the 80s.

2010

  • For the 13th time, Wu Promotion's annual Chinese New Year Concert has successfully toured in Europe. A milestone at the year of the Tiger signifies the beginning of a 2nd cycle for the concert which was part of the celebration of the 60 Years Bilateral Relationship between Switzerland and the People's Republic of China in Switzerland; it was also met with great support from many delegations in Zurich.
  • After a preparation time of more than 2 years, The Cologne Opera House brought their Wagner's The Ring of Nibelung, often regarded as Wagner's greatest opera. Featuring 16 hours of performance with two entire cycles and a cast and crew of 320 people, The Ring's epic production and profound drama held the assembled international audience spellbound. The SMG Shanghai Arts and Humanities Channel recorded 25 hours of the performances. The Frankfurt television channel and the FAZ Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung carried a special daily report on The Ring, while each domestic media report was more complimentary than the last one. In addition the Cologne Opera House brought their radical modern interpretation of Mozart's Don Giovanni to the National Centre for Performing Arts to an enthusiastic audience reception, making it the true cultural highlight of the Chinese National Day holiday.
  • Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) toured to Lisbon (Portugal), Riva del Garda (Italy), Berlin (Germany) and Prague (Czech Republic). During this tour, MYSO took part in three significant music festivals in Europe: Festival allegro 2010, Riva del Garda Music Festival and Youth Euro Classical.
  • The Beijing Friendship Dance Company performed outstanding dance production "The Dream of the Red Chamber" in Egypt . Standing ovations and long-lasting warm applauses were a consistent response at the end of every single show, with audience members complimenting the company on how breathtakingly luxuriant the Chinese stage production was.
  • To cope with the increasing number of artist performances and events, Wu Promotion celebrated in March the opening of its new Shanghai Office. The new office in the heart of the French Concession will support Wu Promotion in its devotion to many involvements at the World EXPO 2010 Shanghai and will help to manage the enlarging market in Shanghai and the company's expansion plan to the overall South of China.
  • Wu Promotion also celebrated the 60 Years Bilateral Relationship between the People's Republic of China and the following countries: Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland. Wu Promotion toured Cullberg Ballet from Sweden, Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir from Denmark, and Basel Symphony Orchestra from Switzerland. The Swiss President Doris Leuthard attended the performance of the Basel Symphonie Orchestra.
  • At the world's largest EXPO in Shanghai this year Wu Promotion has been involved in various celebrations include the openings of National Day for Sweden, Norway, Demark and Switzerland. Moreover, Wu Promotion has become Sponsor of the Italian Pavilion at World Expo 2010 Shanghai and the official organiser for its overall Cultural Programme at the Expo 2010.

2009

  • The unique theatre from Switzerland, Mummenschanz came to stage in China. This world's first visual theatre debuted in China and toured in Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian, Hangzhou and Suzhou for a total of 11 performances in 3 weeks and conquered hundreds of audiences' hearts in China.
  • Chinese New Year Concert Tour brought to Europe China Traditional Orchestra Anhui in the year of the Ox. With the blessing from the President of Austria Mr. Heinz Fischer, the successful tour travelled for the 12th time, completing a full zodiac cycle, in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Egypt.
  • In commemoration of the 250 years anniversary of the birth of Friedrich Schiller, Wu Promotion premiered Schiller's masterpiece Kabale und Liebe performed by the Meininger Theatre and directed by Kerstin Jacobssen.

2008

  • For the 11th time the concert of the Grand Chinese New Year Concert Tour took place at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. The China Traditional Orchestra Guangdong's performance to kick-start the Museum's series of activities for the Beijing Olympic Games.
  • The spectacular Swan Lake Acrobatic Ballet travelled for the first time to perform in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (organized by China Entertainment) . All sixteen performances were sold out.
  • The Nederland's Dan Theatre all exciting performances of modern dance were introduced to China for the very first time by Wu Promotion. As the performances took place shortly after the devastating earthquakes in Sichuan province, Wu Promotion donated all proceeds to disaster relief efforts, hoping to help the many thousands of earthquake victims.
  • To celebrate the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing and also Wu Promotions own 18th year anniversary, the Cairo Opera House performed Verdi's Aida at the National Centre for the Performing Arts. In exchange, the China Central Opera brought Tornado on stage in Cairo later in the year.

2007

  • The 10th Grand Chinese New Year Concert Tour brought two Chinese orchestras to 20 cities in 11 countries: Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Luxemburg, Germany, Egypt, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Russia.
  • Aimed to educate the youngsters with the knowledge of classical music and to nurture them with all genres of music and art from contemporary, chamber music, jazz, to modern dance Wu Promotion introduced the "University 1 EUR Project" to some of China's best universities. The first event took place in October with the support of a variety of concerts in Sweden.

2006

  • Wu Promotion founded its joint-venture company China Entertainment GmbH & Co. KG in Germany.
  • Wu Promotion launched a PR & Events Department specialized in event management.
  • Wu Promotion was been invited to promote Switzerland as a business location to Chinese companies on behalf of OSEC.

2005

  • In co-production with Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Wu Promotion successfully brought the Peking Kun Opera Group to Hamburg, Germany.
  • The China Traditional Orchestra Shanghai toured in Mexico signified as Wu Promotion's own milestone as it was the first time to introduce Chinese troupes to North America.

2004

  • Wu Promotion organized the first ballet tour in China with the Chemnitz Ballet from Germany performing the Bremer Stadtmusikanten. The Guangdong Modern Dance Company was also the first Chinese modern dance troupe to tour in Europe.

2003

  • Led by the artistic Director and chief conductor Long Yu, the China Philharmonic Orchestra had a wonderful concert Vienna, Austria.
  • The China Circus Group Dalian entertained about 10,000 audiences at the City Hall of Vienna.
  • The celebrated cellist Mischa Maisky also toured to Paris, Luxembourg, Amsterdam and Cairo with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra.

2002

  • Since China's economic reform, the only form of music allowed from abroad was instrumental music and therefore, James Last's music was very popular in China and often heard on Chinese radio for years. James Lasts sensational live performances successfully satisfied and charmed his numerous Chinese fans at heart.
  • Wu Promotion introduced the National Dance Company of Ireland for its debut dance tour in China.

2001

  • The European Baroque Orchestra introduced baroque music to China, while Willem Breuker Kollektief marked Wu Promotion's first venture of jazz. The Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra also toured in China the same year.
  • Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra became the first Chinese symphony orchestra Wu Promotion has presented abroad with Solo pianists Yundi Li and Sa Chen as the highlight of the tour.

2000

  • Wu Promotion organized the celebration of the 50th Anniversaries of Sino-Danish and Sino-Swiss Diplomatic Relations.
  • Vienna Operetta Group performed the operetta Merry Widow during their tour in China.
  • Wu Promotion's thriving list of successful events has attracted the attention of the municipal marketing bureau of Berlin, "Partner fur Berlin" which has then commissioned Wu Promotion for the regular distribution of the "Letter from Berlin" to Chinese media for the following three years.

1999

  • For the first time, Wu Promotion invited the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir to perform in China.

1998

  • Convinced that cultural exchange should not be a one-way channel, Wu Promotion was determined to introduce and share Chinese culture abroad with many foreign countries. Supported by the government of Vienna and its former mayor Dr. Zilk, the first Grand Chinese New Year Concert featuring the China National Traditional Orchestra, directed by Chen Xieyang, was held on January 27, 1998, on Mozart's birthday, in Musikverein in Vienna. For the first time, a Chinese traditional orchestra performed a full symphony orchestration in the Western world. Broadcasted by Austrian Broadcasting Corporation and China Central Television, the concert was a milestone for Chinese traditional music performances, not only abroad but also in China, where its success has instilled a new pride and interest in China's own musical heritage.
  • Celebrated as Wu Promotion's first foray into light classical music, the tour of Rondo Veneziano was also a highlight of the year.

1996

  • Bruckner's gripping compositions were performed for the very first time by Bruckner Orchestra Linz from Austria. It was the first large symphony orchestra to ever tour in many major cities in China with Wu Promotion.

1995

  • Jiatong Wu completed his MA in Electrical Engineering at TU Vienna. His thesis was the best MA thesis of the year and received the "Rudolf Sallinger" award, which was presented to him by the Austrian Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel. It was the first time that this award was given to a non-Austrian student.
  • Jiatong Wu returned to Beijing to take over his father's company as General Manager.

1992

  • The Vienna Strauss Festival Orchestra led by Peter Guth, was the first orchestra to tour in China with Wu Promotion. In many cities, it was the first time for audiences to hear and enjoy Western Classical music. Over the next few years, the orchestra has continued to perform in China on ten additional occasions.
  • The first of eight Vienna Opera Balls was held in the newly opened Kempinski Hotel, Beijing, which has attracted diplomats as well as Chinese elites.

1991

  • Thanks to the personal initiative of Vienna's mayor Dr. Helmut Zilk and Zezhou Wu, and with the support of the city of Vienna, the Schrammel Music Quartet performed for the first time in China at the Beijing Concert Hall. The ensemble also took part in the Beijing Vienna Night at the Grand Hotel Beijing which was broadcasted by the television channels in China.
  • Wu Promotion was established by Mr. Wu Zezhou and Mr. Wu Jiatong in Beijing as one of China's first performing arts promoters and event organizers.

1985

  • Following in his father's footsteps, Jiatong Wu studied German in Munich, and later on, studied Electrical Engineering in Vienna, Austria.

1980

  • Founder, Zezhou Wu, a physicist, was invited by the Walther-Meissner Institute in Germany, for low temperature research at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
