To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, from June 16th-28th Wu Promotion and Hong Kong Ballet staged the classic 19th century ballet ‘Swan Lake’ and the 2016-2017 season grand finale ‘Gala’ for dance lovers across the country. The company performed in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ji’nan. During the tour we were lucky to have Jing Liang (Senior Ballet Master), Min Tang (Ballet Mistress) and Zhaomin Tan (Executive Director) with us along the way.

From June 16th-18th, Hong Kong Ballet presented a mesmerizing production of ‘Swan Lake’ to more than 3000 audience members in three days at Beijing’s Tianqiao Performing Arts Center. On June 20th, the company performed ‘Gala’ at Hangzhou’s Grand Theatre. This was the first time choreographer Fei Bo’s Shenren Chang was staged at this outstanding performance venue. The Director of the Liaison Office of the HKSAR in Zhejiang Liao Fengxian said: ‘The 20th anniversary of the HKSAR is a milestone. We’ll not only grasp the existing advantage for Hong Kong’s future development, we will also seek new opportunities and new impetus.’

On June 23rd and 25th, Hong Kong Ballet performed ‘Swan Lake’ and ‘Gala’ at Shanghai’s Poly Grand Theatre, the only city in which the ballet company presented two different works on this tour. Zhongmin Deng, the Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai gave high praise, saying: “With these performances, the citizens of Shanghai also felt the happiness of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR!”

On June 28th, the company performed ‘Swan Lake’ in Ji’nan. It was the very first time Hong Kong Ballet had been to the city. With a successful performance, the tour ended perfectly.
