The second Mariinsky Theatre Festival in China was held in Harbin Grand Theatre from August 7th to 10th, ‘2017 Valery Gergiev and The Mariinsky Orchestra Concert’, an important part of the second ‘Harbin Sino-Russian Cultural and Art Exchange Week’, met the audience in Harbin on August 7th, under the support of Ministry of Culture of the P.R.C and Heilongjiang Provincial Culture Department, hosted by Harbin Municipal People's Government and Sverdlovsk Oblast State Government, organized by Harbin Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Television, Press and Publication, Foreign Affairs Office of Harbin Municipal People's Government, Harbin Performing Arts Film & Television Group and Harbin Grand Theatre. On August 9th-10th, The ballet company of Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre performed the classic ballet opera Le Corsaire.

On August 7th, Maestro Valery Gergiev held his iconic ‘toothpick’ onstage to lead The Mariinsky Orchestra presenting Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1 in G Major and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5 in E Minor to the Chinese audience. The violin solo part of the first programme was performed by the brilliant young Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovich, who is only 16. Mr. Hao Lu, Deputy Secretary of Heilongjiang Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Heilongjiang Province, Mr. Xibin Song, Deputy Secretary of Harbin Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Harbin attended to the performance and met Valery Gergiev. Famous composer, Honorary chairman of Chinese Musicians Association Mr. Gengchen Fu and conductor Mr. Muhai Tang also came and had the chance to communicate with Russian artists.

On August 9th - 10th, Mr. Xibin Song, Deputy Secretary of Harbin Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Harbin, Ms. Lina Zhang, Director of Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Culture, Kanguo Li, Director of Harbin Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Television, Press and Publication watched the ballet Le Corsaire performed by The ballet company of Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre and gave highly appreciation to the show.

In November, conductor Valery Gergiev will lead The Mariinsky Orchestra and The Mariinsky Ballet onto the stage of Shanghai Grand Theatre, presenting Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite, Petrushka and the Ballet Cinderella.
