Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe performed in the Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center from 29 August to 1 September for the first time...

With the support of Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the overseas coordination of Wu Promotion, Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe performed in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) from 29 August to 1 September for the first time, presenting a series of finest Chinese traditional opera performances. The performances commemorated the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Greece under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Chinese Ministry of Culture.

As the first Chinese performing group invited to perform on the SNFCC stage, Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe enchanted the Greek audiences with a series of classic Kunqu Opera masterpieces, including The Legend of the White Snake and the gala program of four classic excerpts. With full houses every night, around 6,000 spectators acclaimed the performances with great applause. Greek government and local media also paid special attention to the performances. Mr.Wenqi Gao, the Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Greece, Mr. Jeroen Versteele, the Dramaturge of the Director of Berliner Festspiele and Mr. Zezhou Wu, the founder of Wu Promotion attended the performances. The president of Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre Foundation also showed up to support the event specially.

In 2018, Wu Promotion will collaborate with the 40-year-old Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe again, bridging the world and Kunqu opera while increasing the global impact of the traditional Chinese culture.
