Over the course of nearly two weeks, conductor Teodor Currentzis joined forces with musicAeterna Orchestra to captivate audiences in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xi’an, and Beijing with their electrifying artistic intensity.

The tour unfolded around a profoundly philosophical and emotionally charged dual-program concept. One program juxtaposed the poignant farewell of Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs with the existential struggle of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, immersing audiences in a timeless meditation on fate, mortality, and the human condition. The second program featured a 130-member expanded musicAeterna Orchestra, presenting Wagner’s The Ring Without Words symphonic suite, which compiled by Lorin Maazel—reimagining the vast universe of Nordic mythology through pure sound alone. Each performance was met with overwhelming impact and thunderous applause.

As the final curtain fell, this extraordinarily compelling ensemble once again affirmed its powerful resonance with Chinese audiences. We look forward to the next encounter with musicAeterna Orchestra.
