Chinese Acrobatics and Flower Drum Opera Appearing at the Muscat Festival

Anhui Provincial Opera and Dance Drama Theatre was again invited to perform at the Muscat Festival, and drew a successful conclusion of its 10-day’s performance.

From January 30th to February 8th 2013, Anhui Provincial Opera and Dance Drama Theatre was again invited to perform at the Muscat Festival, and drew a successful conclusion of its 10-day’s performance. Since its inception in February 1998, the annual Muscat Festival is one of the most important cultural feasts in Oman, has attracted visitors from around the world, and captured their attention with eye-catching events and activities that fully showcase the cultural prosperity of Oman.

Each performance by the Anhui Provincial Opera and Dance Drama Theatre at the Al Amerat Park attracted thousands of visitors. The tour de force performance given by Chinese acrobats delighted and amazed the on-lookers. Highlights of the classical acrobatics, including Heading Chairs and Plates Spinning, created breath-taking moments for the audience. The audience burst into long lasting applause as they watched the incredible poises and acts by the acrobats. The Lion Dance and Shuang Hui Men, which belong to the Chinese traditional art form Flower Drum Opera, were also eye-catching performances of the night. After the events, many enthusiastic spectators went on the stage and wanted to be photographed together with the acrobats, expressing their strong interest in Chinese acrobatics.

Muscat Festival has become one of Oman’s most spectacular tourist attractions. The re-appearance of Chinese acrobatics and dance during the festival has deepened the understanding of the local audience about Chinese culture, hence promoted Chinese culture in Middle East area.
